Article Writing- Everything you Need to Know

Writing an article really isn’t that hard- you just need something to write about. But writing a great article takes some skill. If you want to make your work stand out from the rest, follow these useful tips for writing great articles and landing great article writing jobs.

Tip #1- Choose a topic you are passionate about. It is so much easier to write a great article if the subject interests you. Find your niche and become an expert in the field. Granted, it may be harder to find work if you only focus on one or two niches but you may be able to command more money for high quality work.

Tip #2- Make the article flow. When you are writing an article, it is almost like telling a story. You want the reader to understand the article from beginning to end and not have to jump from top to bottom to make sense of it. Every good article will have an introduction which explains what the article is about, a middle with all of the important details, and a conclusion to pull it all together.

Tip #3- Make your paragraphs transition into the next. By this, I mean each subsequent paragraph should somehow tie into the previous paragraph. If you need to end a section abruptly, use headers to clearly identify each new section so your audience doesn’t get lost.

Tip #4- Use synonyms. No reader wants to see the same word fifty times in an article. Microsoft Word has a great built-in thesaurus which will provide you with lists of alternative word choices. Just make sure the word you choose still makes sense.

Tip #5- Stay on topic. If the material isn’t relevant to the topic of your article, omit it. You shouldn’t be writing an article about raising a puppy and venture off into talking about kittens. It just wouldn’t make sense and it will hurt your credibility as a good writer.

Tip #6- If you are asked to write about something which you know nothing about, do some research! I cannot stress this enough! There is nothing worse than submitting an article which is completely off base.

Tip #7- If you are writing for someone else, don’t be afraid to ask for clarification. You want to make sure the work you are submitting is what your client is expecting. Giving them what they want will keep them coming back to you for future assignments.

Tip #8- Use the proper wordage. Make sure you have a good understanding of which words to use. Then instead of than, the correct your or you’re, etc. Many time Microsoft Word will catch this but there are cases in which it won’t.

Tip #9- Proofread everything! You do not want to submit work which has not been proofread. A tip for proper proofreading is to read it aloud. This way you will catch any errors in your writing.

Tip #10- Never plagiarize! If you need to quote something in your work be sure to give due credit to the original author or source. Most article buyers will check your work with plagiarism finders to make sure you are not trying to pass off someone else’s work as your own.

By following these simple tips, you will be well on your way to writing great articles. Once you have the art mastered, you are sure to bring in top dollar for all of your work!

Real Work from Home Opportunity

Working from home is a great way to supplement your current income or even replace it if you have the determination. Finding a legitimate work from home opportunity takes time- and a lot of research. I decided a long time ago I was tired of working to make someone else rich while I was barely able to get by. I developed a plan, and made it work.

Naturally, everyone is drawn to advertisements claiming you can make over $100 per year. Sure, this sounds awesome but does it really sound realistic? Think about it- what are the odds you are going to be able to make that kind of money without making am upfront investment and then working your butt off to reach these numbers? Honestly, the chances of success are slim to none. In most cases you will simply be throwing your money away.

I found a great opportunity to make a decent living working my own hours and without investing any money to get started. The income was modest at first but over the past year and a half, I have been able to quit my full time job and earn a decent living doing something I love!

By now, I am sure I have your curiosity peaked so I won’t keep you in suspense any longer. I am a freelance writer. That’s right, I write for other people and get paid to do it. I found a great freelancing site and I am able to pick the types of jobs I do. I also get to determine how much I will make for doing these jobs. I have written content from Web pages to articles for online submission. I have also created brochures for print and I also do a lot of product entry in to Web sites.

I want to tell you ahead of time- it took me some time to get going. The problem is, when you first get started, you don’t have any feedback to support your claims of diligent work. In order to gain some feedback and be able to land the higher paying jobs, you will probably have to accept some lower paying jobs in the beginning. And remember, you are competing with writers from all around the globe- some of which are willing to work for next to nothing.

The key is self selling. You need to convince the buyer why you are the best person for the job. I would advise writing a few sample articles, they can be about whatever you choose, and keep these to show as samples of your work. I would also suggest starting a blog. A blog is a great way to gain exposure and gives you something to refer potential clients to.

Once you get your first freelance job, be sure to complete it on time. You do NOT want to start out your freelancing career with a negative review. Make sure you proofread everything before submitting it to the client and always be sure to keep them updated as to the status of the project. Your communication is essential to your success. When sending an email to a client, keep it professional- don’t use acronyms or slang.

Through much trial and error I was able to find probably the best freelancing site on the Internet today. Hundreds of new jobs are posted daily and I never have any trouble finding work. I have developed numerous long term relationships and I am now able to set my own rate of pay because if you are good enough, people will pay for your quality work.

More Devastation for an Island Nation in Despair

Another earthquake rumbled through the island nation of Haiti today causing more damage and fear to a country already in shambles. Aid is slow at best in getting to those in need and the outlook is grim for thousands of Haitians. Logistics are blocked by fallen buildings and many of the country’s leaders lost their lives in the original earthquake over a week ago.

The United States and many other great Nations are doing as much as possible to get food and water to those in need but currently there aren’t enough supplies to go around. It has proven difficult to get these much needed supplies into Haiti because of the destruction to the seaports and airport.

The people of Haiti are scared and as such, are resorting to violence in order to get the supplies they desperately need. This creates fear in the volunteers who are there to help. It seems to be a vicious cycle with no end in sight. The rebuilding of Haiti, both physically and mentally, will take months if not years.

Everyone needs to do their part in returning security and structure to these people. Many organizations are accepting donations to pay for supplies such as water, food, and clothing. You can donate online, through SMS text messages, or even over the phone. The more awareness we can raise for this great cause will result in more aid being sent to those in despair.

No nation could ever be prepared for the devastation Haiti is now facing. It is up to the people of the world to help their fellow brothers and sisters in need. We need to set aside our differences and work together to help restore order to this struggling nation. Now is the time to step up, not dwell on hatred. Give in any way you can, whether it by monetary or by simply spreading the word. By working together, we can make a difference!

Life as We Know It

For most of us living in the US, simple things such as clean water, food on the table, and spending time with family and friends is something we take for granted. We wake up knowing we will have water to drink, there’s food in the cupboard, and are family and friends are safe and sound in their own homes. But for just one moment, it’s time we thought about the less fortunate- the people who do not have these things to take for granted.

Last week, a devastating earthquake  shook the island nation of Haiti. Thousands of people have died, many of them placed in mass graves with no marker- souls forever lost to an unknown world. It’s a tragedy really, not merely because so many people lost their lives but because so many people right here in the US feel it is unthinkable for us to send them aid. But I pose the question, what if this had happened here, what if it were your friends and loved ones lying buried beneath piles of rubble? Or worse yet, imagine how it must feel to not know what has happened to your loved ones- not knowing if they were hurt or worse dead, and knowing that you may never know because they may be at the bottom of a mass grave. Imagine just for one second that you would never be able to pay them a final tribute, to mark their grave. It is devastating and heartbreaking yet so many of us feel so strongly that the US should not be sending aid.

The people of Haiti are no different than you and I. Sure, their skin maybe darker and their English broken but in the end, we are all God’s people, cut from the same mold. For some, this is a concept which may be hard to swallow. But we must not give up, we must continue to do the selfless things we do so that the people of Haiti can have a chance to salvage some sort of life.

Life as we know it has been full of opportunities. These opportunities, both lost and gained, have made us in to the great nation which we are today. We help because we can, not because we are obligated. The world would be a much better place for all if we just took a moment to help those around us in need. Giving comes from the heart and people who give tend to be kinder, gentler spirits.

Our reactions to the giving of others greatly influences our children, our leaders of tomorrow. What kind of a callous nation will they live in if we continue to hold such negative feelings towards those who choose to do good, to do their part to help others in need? it is up to us and our attitudes towards other to develop the children of today into great leaders of tomorrow.

Should we do our part to help those who are less fortunate here at home? Absolutely! But we should also do our part to help other nations in need. I may feel differently if we were aiding Haiti because of a civil war or a lack of leadership but a violent act of nature such as an earthquake is not something they could have possibly been prepared for. We pull together as a nation to help victims of hurricanes and wild fires, is it really so wrong to pull together as God’s people to help the victims of a devastating earthquake?
