More Devastation for an Island Nation in Despair

Another earthquake rumbled through the island nation of Haiti today causing more damage and fear to a country already in shambles. Aid is slow at best in getting to those in need and the outlook is grim for thousands of Haitians. Logistics are blocked by fallen buildings and many of the country’s leaders lost their lives in the original earthquake over a week ago.

The United States and many other great Nations are doing as much as possible to get food and water to those in need but currently there aren’t enough supplies to go around. It has proven difficult to get these much needed supplies into Haiti because of the destruction to the seaports and airport.

The people of Haiti are scared and as such, are resorting to violence in order to get the supplies they desperately need. This creates fear in the volunteers who are there to help. It seems to be a vicious cycle with no end in sight. The rebuilding of Haiti, both physically and mentally, will take months if not years.

Everyone needs to do their part in returning security and structure to these people. Many organizations are accepting donations to pay for supplies such as water, food, and clothing. You can donate online, through SMS text messages, or even over the phone. The more awareness we can raise for this great cause will result in more aid being sent to those in despair.

No nation could ever be prepared for the devastation Haiti is now facing. It is up to the people of the world to help their fellow brothers and sisters in need. We need to set aside our differences and work together to help restore order to this struggling nation. Now is the time to step up, not dwell on hatred. Give in any way you can, whether it by monetary or by simply spreading the word. By working together, we can make a difference!
